Lakes Area Songs Competition in Brainerd cancels season thanks to COVID

The Lakes Space Tunes Competition, which returned this summer in Brainerd, Minn., with reside in-individual performances, has canceled its year and all associated things to do following two artists analyzed positive for COVID-19. The concert events had been scheduled to operate by Aug. 22.

“Last 7 days, our season began with optimism and enthusiasm,” creative director Scott Lykins stated in an email despatched late Friday night time. “We were being confident in our return to stay performances with the information that all of our artists are vaccinated and 98 per cent of ticket holders noted vaccination. …

“Unfortunately, two of our artists have tested beneficial for COVID. Hence, it is with deep regret and with the protection of our LAMF neighborhood in mind that we should terminate all remaining routines of our 2021 period.”

This period experienced marked the debut of a new live performance location, the Gichi-ziibi Middle for the Arts in downtown Brainerd, and the festival’s first tunes director, German conductor Christian Reif. He had conducted the festival’s finale performances in 2016, 2017 and 2018 and was established this season to lead six orchestral packages and a creation of Igor Stravinsky’s “The Rake’s Development.”
