GILLETTE, Wyo. — A magician and comedian has canceled performances at libraries in northeastern Wyoming for the reason that of on line and phoned in threats above a social media publish about her being a transgender woman, she claimed.
The Campbell County Library posted on its Fb webpage that Mikayla Oz, 24, was canceling displays prepared for Wednesday and Thursday in Gillette and Wright out of basic safety fears for herself, library workers and patrons, the Gillette Information Report described.
The reality that Oz is a transgender female was shared on a social media put up, primary to misinformation about her performances and calls to protest the situations, library officials claimed.
Oz, who is from Des Moines, Iowa, has executed at libraries, colleges and other situations. She suggests the exhibit she planned is relatives-welcoming and would not have an LGBTQ information.
She was originally ready to do her display irrespective of some complaints, but then she began getting violent and horrifying threats on the net and by telephone, she stated.
Library director Terri Lesley claimed her staff also obtained threats by a patron.
Oz’s gender id was not previously recognized to library staff, nor is it one thing they contemplate applicable, Lesley explained.
“It just breaks my heart, primarily when my show has totally nothing at all to do with my again story at all,” Oz said.
